Ms Tashi Lhamo, 73-year-old is originally from the village of Rhutok, the picturesque region of western Tibet. Arriving in India as a young girl with her parents, she actively kept the essence of Tibetan culture amidst the Indian Tibetan community.
Her youth was marked by simplicity, assisting her parents with their livelihood by tending to animals.
The idyllic simplicity of her youth disappeared when her parents succumbed to illnesses, pushing her to migrate to a town in pursuit of a better future. Despite the adaptation to her new environment, the skills honed in her formative years could not help Tashi-la, leading her to find purpose in a contractual role at TCV School. For a remarkable 26 years, she was a nurturing figure in the school's baby room, shaping the lives of children from families of teachers and staff members.
Tashi-la gracefully transitioned into retirement around 13 years ago, finding solace among the elderly community at TCV Choglamsar. Here, she discovered a new family, including other elderly Tibetans from diverse backgrounds. The structured daily routine and the shared morning and evening prayer sessions cultivate a sense of belonging.
This lovely little lady has great enthusiasm and curiosity, enjoys engaging in conversations and adores basking in the sun.
Despite physical and health challenges associated with ageing, Tashi-la radiates positivity. Managing slightly elevated blood pressure, she diligently follows a regimen of both Tibetan and modern medicines. Her resilience and optimism paint a portrait of a woman who, through various life stages, never forgot herself and her roots.
We are grateful for your participation in our project of helping those in need.
Your support has immense benefits for the Tibetan refugees in India.
With our gratitude
